This course will take students through some of the oldest regions of Spain, La Rioja. This historic region is not only the cradle of Spanish language and culture but is also home to some of the most modern and prestigious wineries in the country. Students will learn about the historical and cultural relevance of San Millán de la Cogolla and the Monasteries of Suso and Yuso throughout early Spanish medieval history. Furthermore, students will be introduced to the wine industry, one of the strongest sectors of Spain’s economy, and visit El Ciego where some of the most avant-garde wineries are located. The contrast of the old and the new, tradition and modernity, is what makes this program unique.
