The introductory course is recommended for students who have no prior knowledge of the Spanish language, as well as those who have had some experience with the language but who need to reinforce it before moving on to an intermediate level. It covers the specific objectives of the elementary level including forms of the present, the use of everyday expressions and simple phrases of very frequent use; presenting yourself and others; asking for and giving basic personal information about your home, your belongings and the people you know and relate in an elementary way if your interlocutor speaks slowly and clearly. To achieve this objective, the grammatical, lexical, cultural, and functional contents will be studied progressively.
The contents will integrate the 5 Competencies of language learning: reading, writing, listening, speaking, and culture. Students will prioritize global communicative competence in Spanish. The class will integrate different topics of Spanish culture and civilization to introduce students to real-life active communication.
The structure of the class is defined in three different modules:
Online Sessions: It is a two-week program where students cover the content of the course online through synchronous daily class meeting with the professor and classmates in real time. Students will do individual as well as collaborative work on specific topics and projects.
Bridge Sessions: Students will come together twice a month to continue working in their collaborative projects. Classes will also include specific advising sessions, workshops, roundtables and activities with guest speakers and business professionals.
Onsite immersion session: As a conclusion of the program students will participate in a two-week immersion program in Madrid, Spain. This capstone experience will allow participants to enjoy a full direct learning, visiting all cultural and historical sites subject of study as well as meeting all partners, experts and guest that participated in the previous part of the program.
Teaching methodology combines classroom sessions on streaming and virtual site visits with the use of other of digital technologies, including filming, photography, virtual and augmented reality reproduction, or web and app, design among others so students can enjoy the best experience from home.
We use Zoom and Google Class for teaching support.
